Teddy Bear Birdfeeder

You'll Need:
  • 2-liter plastic bottle
  • Twine or wire
  • 1 Set of chopsticks
  • Scissors/knife
  • Duct tape
  • Funnel
  • Birdseed

Directions:
  • Ask your child to help you divide the materials into parts and tools, making sure that only you handle the scissors/knife. Then, wash the bottle to remove all labels. Dry it with a towel.
  • Turn the bottle over. Ask your child which tool you should use to cut or poke two small holes in the bottom of the bottle (scissors/knife). Throughout the activity, make sure your child is a safe distance away every time you cut the holes. When done, thread twine or wire through one hole and out the other. Loosely tie the twine or wire together to make a loop for hanging. The bottom of the bottle will become the top of the feeder.
  • Cut or poke two holes on opposite sides of the bottle, three inches from the bottle cap. Make the holes just large enough for a chopstick to fit through. Ask your child which part should go through the holes (chopstick). Insert the chopstick; this will serve as a perch for the birds to sit on.
  • Cut or poke one-third-inch holes two inches above the perch. This is where the birds will get the seed.
  • Turn the bottle right-side up. Unscrew the cap and fill half the bottle with birdseed. Replace the cap.
  • Turn the bottle over. Tie the twine or wire around a tree limb or hang outside a window. Watch the birds that come to your feeder.

Marble Mittens

You'll Need:
  • Marbles
  • Paint
  • Paper
  • Plastic Container

Directions:
Have your children cut out mittens from the paper. Then give them a small covered container have them put their mitten in the container, dip marbles into paint and put them into the container. Close the container and let your children shake it. These really do make neat designs.

TP Penguin

This is a cute little penguin that will come in handy if you're working on a Winter theme, Winter animal theme, or Penguins themselves.

You'll Need:
  • Drink Trays from McDonalds
  • Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Black, White and Orange Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Template

Directions:
  1. Cover your tube with black construction paper. Print out the template below for the penguin parts.
  2. Trace the tummy template onto white construction paper and cut out. Trace the wings template onto black construction paper and cut out. Trace the feet and beak onto orange construction paper and cut out.
  3. Glue the tummy onto the tube so that the flat edge is at the bottom of the tube.
  4. Lightly crease the wings and then glue them onto either side of the tummy. Creasing them before you glue them will help them stick out from the body a little.
  5. Glue on the wiggle eyes and the beak. Fold the feet on the line to create tabs. Glue the tabs to the front inside of the tube so that the feet stick out in front of the penguin. (See picture above.)
  6. A great art idea is to take a tray from Duncan Donuts( the ones they put the coffees in) Turn it upside down and paint it white. ( that is the iceberg), then take a toilet paper roll
